Peer Group Mentoring

GAN with the Otway Agroforestry Network will be presenting a Peer Group Mentoring (PGM) training day on Thursday 19th November at Boolarra. This full day will lead participants through the PGM process and equip them to mentor landowners in the direction of sustainable land management in Gippsland. So if you have a passion for growing trees and some experience in doing that and wish to participate please contact Peter Devonshire on 0428 3467211 or asap.


Tree Planting Day at the Budgeree Biodiverse Agroforestry Woodlot site

Saturday 26th September 9.30am followed by a BBQ lunch

Come along and help extend the area available for wild life on this property. It won’t be too arduous! It is designed to get us functioning as a network.

You will be involved with planting and guarding trees, discussing issues of the site and plans for GAN over the coming year.

2:00pm- 5:00pm Review demonstration plantings and develop plan for future management.
This is an opportunity for members to review their own plans for their own forests and discuss options with local professional forest managers. The group is hoping to arrange a harvest demonstration on this site in coming months.

Commercial Wood Crops with Biodiversity

On May first GAN ran a seminar at Boolarra and field inspection at Budgeree looking at the value of woodlots and biodiversity to flora and fauna conservation.  Thirty-five people attended and came from throughout western Gippsland, Melbourne and beyond. Speakers included Anthony Dufty on Analogous Forestry, Gib Wettanhall on the Imlal Biorich Plantation near Ballarat, Richard Lyon on his research into the value of plantations to birdlife, Rchard Appleton on the HVP Stewardship Program, Rob Youl on his activities near St Arnaud and Peter Devonshire on the Biodiverse Woodlot Trial at Budgeree. The seminar was Chair by Geoff Hill from Latroe City Council. The event and trial is being supported by a Victorian Landcare Grant through Latrobe Catchment Landcare Network and the lunch was provided by Latrobe City Council. Presentations will be added to the website under News as they are made available.
